What Is The Genesis Framework?
Before we talk about the Genesis Framework, let’s first take a minute to learn what a WordPress.org framework even is. To not bore you with lots of terminologies, one of the easiest ways to understand this concept, is to remember these two simple words: Parent and Child. Think of the Parent being like the framework of a car and the Child being the paint job on the car making it all nice and pretty.
Parent and Child Themes
A WordPress framework is known as the Parent Theme. This is where all the functions of a website are found. Web developers create Child Themes. This is where all the styling of a website can be found. The beauty of this concept, is that if an update needs to be made to the framework (Parent), it can be released and updated, without affecting any of the aspects of the Child Theme. There are a few different types of framework but we are going to concentrate on the most widely used one called Genesis.
Why use a framework
The most important reason to have a framework, it that it cuts down on the amount of time it takes to develop a website. A child theme takes that a step further allowing customization and styling options that don’t completely have to be coded from scratch.
Our framework of choice
As you may have guessed, our framework of choice is Genesis created by Studio Press. This website is built on Genesis, and the reason we like it so much is that it is great for website development, it plays nice with all the different parts and pieces that make up a website and it doesn’t contain items that slow down a website to a snail’s pace, so it is a terrific framework that simply keeps things running smoothly. With Genesis, if you wish to customize your Child Theme, you do need to have coding skills to be able to accomplish that.
What is the cost of Genesis
The Genesis framework runs $60 and provides unlimited support and updates. There is no developer option – just one low
